Who What Where

Every connection begins with a place.
This sculpture refers to an animal that moves between water and land, a frog.
In a harbour environment, a kikker is also the Dutch term for a mooring bollard,
the object that connects ship and shore. The sculpture therefore marks both
a beginning and an end point: a place to arrive, to meet, and to continue one’s
journey.

The tags applied to the sculpture represent the GPS coordinates of this
location, translated into different forms of digital representation, including
barcode, data matrix and QR code. These unique location codes are combined
with a unique human code: the fingerprint, as a symbol of human presence at
this place.

The work explores how we connect to the world around us: physically,
biologically and digitally. The frog connects land and water. The fingerprint
connects the work to the human. The GPS coordinates connect it to this
specific location.
Through the QR code, a walk begins along particular sites in the Lloydkwartier.
